Doula Support in WNC

Mountain Area Abortion Doula Collective (MAADCo)

National Hotlines for Support

You deserve support as you navigate the variety of emotions that can arise in this process. The majority of those who get abortions identify feeling relief afterward, but it’s also completely normal to feel a complicated mix of emotions, including grief, anger, confusion, or joy. The best way to care for yourself in this process to make space for whatever feelings arise, and to find supportive people to talk to; if you don’t have family or friends who can provide this for you, consider calling one of the following hotlines who are set up to provide this very support.

  • Exhale Pro-Voice Talkline: 1-866-4-EXHALE or text: 617-749-2948

  • All-Options: 1-888-493-0092

  • Connect & Breathe: 1-866-647-1764

  • National Abortion Federation: 1-800-772-9100

    • This hotline also leads to financial support and abortion referrals, and is often busy, calling back several times may be necessary

  • Faith Aloud: 1-888-717-5010

    • Hotline leads to a voicemail, leave your first name and phone number, after which you will receive a call back. Trained counselors are unbiased and nonjudgmental clergy of various faiths

  • Repro Legal Helpline: 844-868-2812

    • Includes information about obtaining a judicial bypass for minors accessing abortion without parental consent, knowing your rights around a self-managed abortion (the abortion pill), and the abortion rights in your state

If you find that you need additional or more sustained support, please contact a therapist in your area. If you have concerns for your safety, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.

Beware of “post-abortion support groups” offered by local crisis pregnancy centers - these are not always run in a manner that affirms your right to make decisions about your own body, and can increase feelings of guilt and shame.
